Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
mostly called Mahatma Gandhi / mehata/.from Sanskrit,Mahatma. „Great Soul“ (* 2. October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat; † 30. January 1948 in Neu-Delhi, Delhi), was the spiritual and political leader of the Indian independence movement. His concept of Satyagraha (literally "sticking to the truth")  was based on truthfulness and an active, but non-violent resistance. He led India to independence. In India, he was awarded the honorary title of "father of the nation". His birthday, the second October every year is celebrated as a holiday in India.

1869         MG was born on the 2nd of October 1869 in Porbandar in India as Mohandas       
             Karamchand Gandhi. His father was the Prime Minister  of the principality of
             Porbandar.(*low caste)

1883         married to Kasturba  (*at the age of thirteen, he was married through an 
             arrangement to Kastruba  Makharji.)
1885         Father died at age of 63
1888        First of four sons was born
1891        Sailed from Bombay to England to study law.
1891-1893 layer in Bombay
     1893     April Sailed to South Africa to become lawyer for an Indian film. (*Brithen control   
                  South Africa)
     1893     Found himself subjected to all kinds of color discrimination.
1893-1914 he struggled for Indias  independence. During the time he developed the concept
                  of  the  Satyagraha (*non-violent resistance) (*Festhalten an der 
                  Wahrheit   ( *gewaltlosen Wiederstand)
1894 May  Organised Natal Indian Congress (*The Indians fight against race discrimination       
                  in South Africa)
    1899     G.moved 1100 Indian s to help the British colonial regime in the war-without   
                 violencenly sanitary service
    1902     Returned to South Africa
    1903        Summer: opened law office in Johannesburg.
    1907     Indians must keep a registrations act with themself to identify always
           G. + 3000 pendants start resistance.
1914        Gandhi left South Africa forever, went to India and fought for  the independence
             movement
1920        Gandhi becomes the leader of the Indian National Congress (INC)  (*importent
             instrument of  i.m )
 1922-1924   Mahatma Gandhi was in a British prison.The British magistrates gave  him 6 years
            for  disobedience.
      1923     Wrote Satyagraha in South Africa and part of his autobiography in the prison.
1930        Mohatma Gandhi leads a 200 meter (300 km) march leading thousands of Indians
             to the Indian ocean to make their own salt, protesting against the British salt

      1947     India's independence and partition into two states: India(predominantly Hindu)       
             and Pakistan (Muslim majority); Gandhi's influence curbs civil war unrest
             M.G.hade bee an advocate for a united India where hindus and muslims lived 
             together in peace.


† 30. January 1948      Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was killed by three gunshots.    
                                                          (*by Nathuram Godse (fanatical,Hindu nationalist)
